The Federation Council suggested addressing the United Nations, UNESCO and other international organizations with an initiative to recognize the victory over Nazism in World War II world heritage of the mankind. The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko reported about it at a meeting of Board of Legislators of the Russian Federation with President Vladimir Putin.
"The Federation Council has already proposed a number of parliaments to appeal to the United Nations, UNESCO and other international organizations with the initiative to recognize the victory over Nazism in the World War II as the World Heritage of mankind," said Matvienko.
The speaker also proposed to recognize monuments to fighters against Nazism as World War II memorials.
"It would send a reliable barrier to attempts of copying and falsification of the history of the twentieth century and the Great Patriotic War," Matviyenko emphasized.
